It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Janie Norma Grooms, age 73, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Princeton, Kentucky, who departed this life on Thursday, April 16, 2026, entering her heavenly home.
Janie passed away at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, following a courageous journey marked by both physical and personal challenges. Born on November 12, 1952, to the late Mildred Frazier Grooms and Ulas Lee Grooms, Janie was raised in Princeton, Kentucky, where she attended Caldwell County High School.
Following her graduation, Janie proudly served her country in the United States Army, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to service. After completing her military service, she worked at an accounting firm in San Francisco, California. Even in retirement, Janie remained dedicated to helping others, volunteering with military organizations that supported service members, veterans, and their families.
Janie will be remembered for her warm spirit, quick humor, and enduring smile. Despite facing significant health challenges, including mental health struggles and cancer, she showed remarkable resilience and strength. Those who knew her will cherish not only her perseverance, but also her laughter, kindness, and the genuine connections she formed throughout her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, LaTonya Grooms and Dionne Grooms; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers, James, Billy Joe, and Jackie Grooms; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She is reunited in rest with her parents and her beloved siblings who preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Janie’s life was one of resilience, service, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
