Jean Alfred Desroches Houston, TX Death-Obituary: From Haiti to Houston: In Loving Memory of Jean Alfred “Fredo” Desroches

It is with great sadness, and deep gratitude for a life richly lived, that we announce the passing of Jean Alfred Desroches, who died peacefully on March 19, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 93.

Born on May 6, 1932, near Petit-Goâve, Haiti, Alfred—known to many as “Fredo”—was raised in a large and close-knit family. From an early age, he developed a strong sense of discipline, faith, and responsibility while balancing his studies with work on the family farm. His education began at L’École des Frères de l’Instruction Chrétienne and continued through Lycée Faustin Soulouque, shaping the values that guided him throughout his life.

Alfred began his career as a teacher after earning his degree in Port-au-Prince. As the eldest son, he became a steady source of support and guidance for his siblings, embodying leadership through quiet strength and compassion. He later transitioned into public service, eventually serving in Haiti’s Department of Finance. In 1966, he was selected as a French Government Scholar, an opportunity that broadened his professional path and led him into accounting.

In 1958, he married Marie Thérèse Lanauze, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in love, faith, and shared purpose. Together, they navigated challenges and opportunities, eventually relocating to the United States, where they built a life in Queens, New York. There, Alfred worked for decades as an accountant, commuting daily with dedication and consistency, and retiring in 1997 after a career marked by diligence and integrity.

Beyond his professional life, Alfred was devoted to his family and community. He and Marie opened their home to relatives, offering support and stability to those beginning new lives. Their faith remained central, with decades of service in their church communities.

In later years, Alfred moved to Houston to be near family, where he was known for his warmth and gentle spirit.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, humility, and devotion to family. His life stands as a testament to perseverance, love, and quiet strength—values that will continue to inspire generations.
