Martin Chadburn Murder Lincolnshire, UK Death: Man Dies After Queen Victoria Square Assault, Murder Probe Underway

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man after reports of a serious assault in Queen Victoria Square, Hull, in the early hours of Sunday, 19 April 2026.

A 53-year-old man, identified as Martin Chadburn, was taken to hospital with a life-threatening head injury following the incident. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly died on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. His family are being supported by specially trained officers during this extremely difficult and heartbreaking time.

Following the incident, a number of arrests were made as part of the ongoing investigation. Five individuals arrested on Monday, 20 April — three women aged 20, 20 and 21, and two men aged 27 and 34 — have now been further arrested on suspicion of murder. All remain in police custody as enquiries continue.

In addition, a 49-year-old woman who was previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday, 19 April remains on conditional bail while further investigations are carried out.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Leanne Murphy described the incident as a tragic loss of life and extended her deepest sympathies to the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues. She confirmed that specialist officers are working intensively to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Martin Chadburn’s death.

She also praised the swift work of officers and staff involved in progressing the investigation and carrying out arrests at an early stage. While acknowledging public concern, she thanked members of the community who have already come forward with information and support.

An increased police presence is expected in the area to provide reassurance, and residents are encouraged to speak with officers if they have any concerns.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information, particularly from anyone who was in Queen Victoria Square at the time of the incident, or who may have CCTV, mobile phone, or dashcam footage that could assist enquiries. Information can be provided via 101, quoting log 100 of 19 April.
