Stockbridge Village Assault Incident Merseyside, UK: Man Dies After Incident in Stockbridge Village, Police Launch Murder Inquiry

We can sadly confirm that a man has died following an incident in Stockbridge Village on Friday 17 April.

At approximately 7.30pm, a 54-year-old man was reportedly assaulted inside The Village Chippy, located off Leach Croft, by another male. Emergency services were not initially alerted by police, however the incident was later reported to Merseyside Police the following day by the North West Ambulance Service after the victim was taken to hospital suffering from a serious head injury.

Despite medical treatment, the man sadly passed away on Tuesday 21 April. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers during this deeply distressing time. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to formally establish the cause of death.

A murder investigation has now been launched, and detectives are urgently appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Officers believe there were members of the public inside The Village Chippy at the time of the incident, and are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what occurred, or who has relevant footage or information.

A 25-year-old man from Stockbridge Village, who was previously arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, remains on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said the thoughts of all officers are with the victim’s family and friends at this tragic time. She acknowledged the concern the incident will cause within the local community, but reassured residents that a thorough investigation is ongoing.

She added that detectives are working at pace to establish the full circumstances and urged anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to make contact with police as soon as possible.
