A large-scale emergency preparedness drill is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, as local agencies come together to strengthen coordinated response efforts. This exercise, organized by Lake Chelan Health Emergency Medical Services in partnership with Chelan Fire & Rescue and Manson Fire Department, will simulate a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) scenario. It will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sargent Field.
This planned drill is designed to replicate a high-impact emergency involving multiple patients, allowing first responders, medical personnel, and support teams to practice critical coordination in a controlled environment. The goal is to ensure that all participating agencies are fully prepared to respond effectively and efficiently in the event of a real-life emergency.
During the exercise, residents in and around Chelan may observe an increased presence of emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire apparatus, as well as personnel actively engaged in response activities. There may also be visible movement of emergency units to and from Lake Chelan Health Hospital. Officials emphasize that this is only a training exercise and that there is no actual emergency situation.
To enhance realism, students from Chelan High School MedClub and EMT trainees from Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center will participate as simulated patients. Their involvement provides responders with valuable hands-on experience in triage, treatment, and patient transport under realistic conditions.
Exercises like this are a vital component of ongoing emergency preparedness efforts. By practicing in a structured and collaborative setting, agencies can refine communication, improve response times, and ensure that resources are used effectively during high-pressure situations.
Community members are encouraged to remain aware but not alarmed if they witness emergency activity during the scheduled time. This drill reflects a proactive commitment to public safety and readiness.
Through continued training and cooperation, local emergency services aim to provide the highest level of care and response when it matters most.
